Design competition launch: Graphic for the 50th Anniversary of Viet
1. Background information and purpose of the competition
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was founded in 1945 with the mission of contributing to peace and sustainable development by fostering international collaboration in education, the sciences, culture, and communication. Through its programmes and global networks, UNESCO works to strengthen mutual understanding among nations and support inclusive and knowledge-based societies.
Viet Nam officially joined UNESCO in 1976, marking an important step in its integration into the international community and the beginning of a long-standing partnership in advancing cooperation in education, culture, science, and communication.
2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Viet Nam’s membership in UNESCO. To support the communication and visibility of this milestone, the UNESCO Office in Viet Nam, in collaboration with the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO, is launching a nationwide graphic design competition. The competition aims to create a commemorative anniversary graphic to be used alongside the official UNESCO logo in communication materials for diplomatic and public events related to the anniversary.
2. Eligibility
The competition is open to all Vietnamese citizens aged 18 and above. Participants may include designers, design studios, or fine arts and design students.
Entries may be submitted individually or as a team. In case of a team entry, one person must be designated as the team representative for communication with the Organiser.
Each participant or team may submit one design proposal only.
3. Layout requirements
Submissions must demonstrate:
- UNESCO logo positioned on the left
- Anniversary graphic positioned on the right
- Appropriate clear space maintained between elements
The graphic should convey clearly the anniversary message (50th anniversary Viet Nam – UNESCO relations / UNESCO core values).
4. Submission requirements
Submissions should consist of:
- One visual sheet (PDF format) presenting the anniversary graphic and its placement next to the UNESCO logo;
- A brief concept description (maximum 200 words);
- Contact information of the participant or team representative.
The concept sheet should clearly demonstrate that the design remains legible in full colour, monochrome (black), and reversed (white on dark background). Optional mockups showing possible applications (such as digital or print materials) are encouraged but not mandatory.
Editable vector source files (AI, EPS or SVG) will be requested only from the selected winner following official notification.
5. Protection of the UNESCO logo
The UNESCO logo is a protected insignia within the United Nations system. Accordingly, participants shall not:
- Alter UNESCO logo in any way (no recolour, distortion, cropping, redrawing, outline edits)
- Place any shape/text over the UNESCO logo
- Incorporate UNESCO logo icon into your graphic
- Create a “combined” or “fusion” logo (UNESCO + Viet Nam merged into one symbol)
- Use the UNESCO logo as part of your drawing (e.g., embed it into the “0” of 50)
- Add national symbols directly to UNESCO logo (flag, star, etc.)
Non-compliant submissions will be disqualified.
6. Submission process & timeline
- Deadline for submission: 23h59 30 April 2026 (Ha Noi time)
- Result announcement: May 2026
